We had a line of people waiting for us each day when we arrived at the site to do eye work. Many of these people had never worn glasses nor had eye care. After we had done a full examination on these individuals, we gave them a pair of prescription glasses that would help them see well.
I remember one lady who could barely see, receiving a pair of glasses for the first time. Her face lit up like a young child on Christmas morning. She kept taking the glasses off and putting them on, hardly believing the enormous difference that a special lens could have on her eyesight. She handled her glasses with the utmost care, cradling them in her hand like a baby bird that had fallen from its nest.
While in Honduras, we were able to help over 800 people with eye-care needs. We had over 300 children in our Vacation Bible School each day. Many children made a first-time commitment to faith in Jesus Christ.
Our day began at 5:30 AM with prayer, breakfast at 6 AM, devotions at 6:30 AM and departure for work at 7 AM. We were able to collect enough money among our group to help several people with surgery. One young boy commented, "Today, I see for the first time."

We were able to visit the home of a lady in the little village where we set up the eye brigade. She poured us all a little cup of Pepsi. Then she showed us (from beginning to end) how to make tortilla dough and shape it into a perfect circle and fry it on top of her wood-burning stove. We were able to see many people this week. Some who desperately needed glasses received their very first pair.
